Placid’s design revolves around clean, uncluttered spaces that evoke a sense of calm. To prevent the design from appearing overly bland, we have strategically integrated wainscoting in select areas, such as the dining room and bedroom. This element seamlessly blends modern simplicity with timeless old-world charm, enhancing the overall contemporary aesthetic.
The wainscoting is painted in a shade that mirrors the wall colour, giving it an almost embossed appearance. This subtle integration introduces a delicate texture that contrasts beautifully with the minimalist décor, fostering a sense of rhythm throughout the home that enhances its visual appeal. This careful interplay of elements not only enriches the design but also maintains the serene and somewhat regal aesthetic that defines Placid
The colour palette is intentionally kept light and restrained throughout the home, with walls in soft whites and light greys that enhance brightness and give off the illusion of spaciousness without being sterile and cold. In the dining area, off-white walls with wainscoting frame a polished wood table in a pale beige finish, paired with dark grey leather chairs. The contrast between light and dark materials help to keep the balance when creating a warm, inviting space and the cool sophistication of Placid’s theme, while the smooth, polished surfaces keep the aesthetic uncluttered and elegant. The colour scheme is carried through to the furnishings as well, with soft grey and white curtains, sofas and bed linens adding to the room's tranquil ambiance. A neutral colour palette of greys and whites also provides a timeless and versatile backdrop, making it easier to find matching decor or furniture that complements the space in the future.
Subtle black accents punctuate Placid’s design, tracing clean lines across ceilings and built-in carpentry. These details add a contemporary edge, creating visual interest without detracting from the space's simplicity. Built-in cabinets in light wood tones line the corridor, offering ample storage that keeps the interiors free from clutter. Designed to be functional yet discreet, these floor-to-ceiling units blend seamlessly with the space thanks to their handleless design.
The bedroom continues this minimalist approach with its own built-in features—a sliding glass wardrobe door that showcases its contents while keeping them dust-free. The transparent element extends the visual openness of the room, inviting light while maintaining the elegant, streamlined look. In the dining area, a glass-fronted cabinet built into the countertop also serves as a display for curated items, bridging the space between the kitchen and dining zones. This piece, crafted in light wood and glass, elevates the practicality of a storage solution into a design feature that allows curated items to be displayed while keeping them protected.
Mirroring the home’s discreet built-in storage solutions, lighting has been thoughtfully integrated into the ceiling with recessed fixtures, preserving the minimalist, uncluttered aesthetic. The exception lies in the dining area, where an ombre smoked glass globe linear pendant light serves as a focal point. This striking feature with its geometric simplicity introduces a touch of elegance and minimalist industrial chic into the dining area while providing an additional source of ambient lighting. The smoky glass shades also soften the light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for intimate meals in the dining area.
Placid's guiding principle centres on achieving a harmonious balance—between light and shadow, functionality and aesthetics, as well as modernity and enduring elegance. Overall, Placid’s design walks the fine line between classic and contemporary minimalism with finesse, transforming everyday spaces into tranquil retreats. Through a balanced use of soft, neutral tones, understated textures and meticulous detailing, Placid achieves a quiet grandeur that is both serene and sophisticated. This is a home designed not just to live in, but to live well—a sanctuary of calm in an ever-busy world.
In conclusion, this project exemplifies the successful integration of contemporary and classic design elements. The result is a residential space that is clean, inviting, and sophisticated, offering a harmonious blend of minimalism, traditional features, bright tones, and thoughtful accents. This condominium is an ideal choice for those who value both style and comfort in their living spaces.
